Sergiev P.V. Assistant professor, Dept. of Chemistry. Responsible person for the collective use of high tech equipment in the Belozersky institute.

Teaching: one year (two semester) lecture course "Basics of Molecular Biology" for 2d year students of the Faculty of Bioengineering and Bioinformatics and lecture course of "RNA biosynthesis" for the 5th year students of the Dept. of Chemistry.

Awards: Shuvalov's prize (jointly with Schpanchenko O.V., 2000), Moscow State University stipends for young talented teachers and scientists (2001, 2002), European Academy Prize (2003).

Research interests: Protein biosynthesis in bacteria and its role in gene expression regulation. Functional role of the ribosomal RNA and protein modifications. One of the main results of the work is identification of the functional role for 6 E. coli genes. Current research project is devoted to investigation of the rRNA modified nucleotides role in regulation of translation. Among the methods used are systems biology tools like proteome analysis and high throughput analysis of gene expression. A system for the new antibiotics search was developed.
